University of Valencia (UV)
Jaime Escribano Pizarro holds a degree in Geography (2004) and a European Ph.D. in Geography (2010) from the University of Valencia (UV). Since February 2012, he has been a member of the academic staff at UV and, since 2023, serves as Associate Professor in the Area of Regional Geographic Analysis within the Department of Geography. He is also a member of the Rural Development and Public Policy Evaluation Group (UDERVAL, GIUV2015-214), which is part of the Interuniversity Institute of Local Development (IIDL).
He lectures in several academic programs at UV, including the Bachelor's Degree in Geography and Environment; the official Master’s degrees in Social Economy (Cooperatives and Non-Profit Entities), Techniques for Environmental and Land Management (which he has directed since November 2022), and International Migrations (interuniversity); and the Interuniversity Doctoral Program in Local Development and International Cooperation, coordinated by the IIDL at UV.
His doctoral thesis, defended in November 2010, focused on access to services in rural areas of Spain (Valencian Community) and France (Lower Normandy). It was recognized by the European Committee of the Regions as one of the best dissertations of 2010. This work marked the beginning of a research line centered on access to services in rural areas, poverty and social exclusion, and the analysis of welfare policies in rural contexts.
This trajectory was further developed through a postdoctoral contract with the French CNRS, carried out at the RURALITÉS Laboratory of the University of Poitiers (France); a six-month research stay (BEST-2014) at the Centre for Remote and Rural Studies at the University of the Highlands and Islands (Scotland), funded by the Department of Education, Culture and Sports of the Valencian Government; and the leadership of a competitive R&D project funded under the EMERGENT-2017 call of the Department of Education, Research, Culture and Sports of the Valencian Government.
He is also a member of the research team for the national R&D project "Depopulation in Spain: from demographic challenge to territorial challenge" (PID2020-114554RB-I00), funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation, as well as for the project "Local development processes in rural environments: new dynamics and territorial challenges" (AICO/2021/104), funded by the Department of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society of the Valencian Government.
He is Co-editor of AGER: Journal of Studies on Depopulation and Rural Development and Secretary of the Rural Geography Working Group of the Spanish Association of Geography (AGE). AGER: Revista de Estudios sobre Despoblación y Desarrollo Rural y secretario del Grupo de Trabajo de Geografía Rural de la Asociación Española de Geografía (AGE).
